A free, privacy-first WiFi analysis tool for Android
Simple WiFi Scanner lets you see all WiFi networks around you, visualise their signal strengths on a channel chart, and understand how they overlap. It's designed for anyone who wants to find the best channel for their router, diagnose interference, or simply see what's nearby.
The app is completely offline — it doesn't use the internet, has no ads, no tracking, and no analytics. Everything stays on your device.
Visual bell-curve display of every network's signal across frequency channels. See at a glance where congestion is and which channels are clear.
Switch between 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz tabs to view networks on each band separately.
Colour-coded dBm readings for every network, updating automatically every 35 seconds.
Long-press any network to give it a memorable name like "Living Room" or "Neighbour's Router". Aliases are saved across sessions.
A banner at the top always shows your current connection with its channel, band, security type, and signal strength.
Quickly see which networks are open and which are secured (WPA2, WPA3, WEP, OWE), with lock indicators on every entry.
When you first open the app, it will ask for location permission. This is an Android requirement for WiFi scanning — the app does not track your location or use GPS. Grant the permission and nearby networks will appear immediately.
The top half of the screen shows a chart with channel numbers along the bottom and signal strength (dBm) on the left. Each network appears as a bell curve — taller curves mean stronger signals. Overlapping curves indicate networks competing on the same channels, which can cause interference and slower speeds.
On the 5 GHz and 6 GHz tabs, swipe the chart horizontally to see the full channel range.
Tap the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, or 6 GHz tabs to filter the view. Both the chart and the network list update to show only networks on the selected band.
Below the chart, each network is listed with its name, channel, bandwidth, security status, and signal strength. The colour of the signal reading gives you an instant sense of quality — green for strong, red for weak. If there are many access points, scroll down within the list to see them all.
Long-press any network in the list to set a custom alias. This replaces the SSID display everywhere in the app, making it easy to identify networks at a glance. Aliases are stored locally and persist across app restarts.
The app scans automatically every 35 seconds. To trigger an immediate scan, tap the Scan Now button in the top bar. Note that Android limits foreground apps to 4 scans per 2 minutes, so very rapid tapping may be throttled by the system.
Simple WiFi Scanner collects no data and has no internet access. For full details, see the Privacy Policy.
